Zone 9 Open Singles Champion - Rohan Dennis
Zone 9 Singles Finals – 16 Apr 2023
Congratulations to Rohan Dennis who is the new Zone 9 Open Singles Champion.
We hosted the Zone Singles finals at Belrose today. The day started with a rain shower but quickly cleared into a mild and sunny day with quite a stiff breeze in the afternoon. The Senior and Reserve semi-finals were held in the morning alongside the Womens Singles Regional Play-offs (Open won by Billie Maas from Belrose and the Senior won by Virginia Longfellow from Harbord).
The Seniors semis were played in the morning. Steve Ashdown came up against Paul Leckey from Harbord in a tough Senior semi and went down 13-25.
The three division finals were played in the afternoon. John Lloyd (Lane Cove) defeated Sean Semler (Balgowlah) in the Reserves division and Mark Blackwood (Mona Vale) defeated Paul Leckey (Harbord) in the Seniors division.
The Open final was an all Belrose affair with James Brown up against Rohan Dennis. It was a great match against two of our clubs best bowlers and mates. It was 12-all after 14 ends and then 17-all after 21 ends and looked like a cliff-hanger right to the end. Rohan prevailed (25 – 21) in a tough match with both bowlers holding the lead at times along the way.
Rohan has had a great year at Belrose and we wish him lots of luck at the State Championships in July.
