Women’s Grade 1 Flag Raising 2021

The sun shone brightly at Belrose today when North Shore District President, Sue Hamilton, came to the club to present the women’s Grade 1 flag and Pennant badges. 40 bowlers were in attendance to see the Pennant presented, then and raised on our flagpole.

Belrose hadn’t won Grade 1 since the merger of Districts that created “North Shore” at the end of 2014, although we had come close a couple of times. During the Pennant season, the only loss our Grade 1 side suffered was “away” to Neutral Bay (who had won a District Grade 1 flag for 15 consecutive years).

When the side went on to win the Region 15 (“Zone 9 equivalent”) play-off against Harbord on 28 April, Belrose booked a spot in the Grade 1 State Play-Offs for the first time since 1999!

Thank you to our Selectors for their efforts that assisted us to win the flag this year – the side of eight included three players previously graded “4”, who all made a great contribution to our squad.

Well done to all bowlers who played in the pennant season, with our women’s Grade 3’s only just missing out on winning a flag. We had some quite new bowlers participate as “reserves” and look forward to these players participating in the 2022 season. Meanwhile, good luck to our Grade 1’s playing at Kingscliff Beach in the State Finals in September.

Go the Bullettes.
