Grand Champions Tak, Bob, Mal and Carl with John Cormio
2023-24

The Running of the Bulls – 21 December 2024

The Annual “Running of the Bulls” tournament was held today with a record 104 participants. The event not only provided thrilling matches but also fostered camaraderie among all the participants. Congratulations to the winners and a thank you to all who contributed to make this an enjoyable afternoon.

The 2024 “Running of the Bulls” Grand Champions are Carl Walker, Tak Foster, Mal Smart & Bob Cunneen. They won all 6 games played – 3 in sectional play & 3 in the finals series. They each received a “Bulls” trophy, “Bulls” bottle of wine and shared in 20,000 club points. Well done. A Great team result.

Runners Up were the team of Mike Odhavjee, Jack Petersen, Bob Barnes & Suzie Fischer. They reached the final the hard way via the repechage. Overall it was 5 wins from 7 games – all games were very close. They received club wine & shared in 10,000 club points. A powerhouse team.

Paul Stracey dressed for the occasion in matador gear. Very impressive. Much better than your original idea of wearing a mankini. Best dressed winner & a bottle of wine for your efforts.

Matador awards winners were Jan Toovey & Neil Watt. They each received a bottle of club wine, a red cloth (my best attempt at a muleta) & a can of corned beef. Both are very experienced matadors – Jan dealing with an old bull at home & Neil ever ready for a bull charge with his aluminum weapon at hand.

Thanks to Graham for all his support and much work in arranging the teams & draws. The many player changes meant regular reassessment of the teams followed by reruns of the draw. The overall results on the day confirm Graham’s selection process.

Thanks to the assistance provided by Peter, Kevin, Neil, Susie, Billie & Steve. Julie & Angie generously added to the raffle prizes. Andy as usual provided plenty of support & assistance which was appreciated. Also, the valued support from Club Belrose plus Rowdy & Joey providing 3 excellent greens for play.

There have been many improvements to the RotB format since we first introduced it some years ago. Participation has increased each year which is very rewarding. Everyone’s support is greatly appreciated – Thank you.
