Ben Glasson (s) & Murray Chapman - Overall Winners
2022

Rex Johnston Open Pairs 9-10 May 2022

The weather forecast for this year’s Rex Johnston Tournament was not promising and we were all preparing for the worst, however the gods were smiling upon us and, apart from a few small showers, we managed to get two relatively fine days of play. The format this year was eight games of 11 ends each over the two days. Even though the weather had been very poor for many months, all the greens were in great shape thanks to John and Joey’s hard work.

Murray Chapman and Ben Glasson (Mt Lewis) got off to a flying start on the first day and kept the standard high for the remainder of the tournament. It was no surprise to see them take out the overall 1st place.

There was a three way tussle between the next three teams and the final placings weren’t known until the last team came in at the end of day 2. In the end, the Mark Bowen, Brad Franklin team secured 2nd spot and the Terry Warder, Steve Ashdown team leap-frogged over the Steve Gliddon, James Brown team by only 1 end on the 8th game for 3rd and 4th spot respectively. It was a great finish to a close tournament.

Congratulations go out to all the players and thanks also to all the helpers and officials. These tournaments couldn’t run without volunteers and helper and they are very much appreciated. Club Belrose did a great job providing a wonderful venue and keeping all the players well supplied with ‘refreshments’.
