Rex Johnston 2021 Wrap-up

We had a mixed bag of conditions for this year’s Rex Johnston Invitational Pairs – on day 1 we had full on sunshine, no wind and very mild conditions, however the weather gods changed their minds for day 2 and the rain and cold moved in. We lost some time in the first game of the second day and we had to reduce the last three games from 10 to 8 ends to make sure we could complete the tournament. 

It was a very tight finish with the top 3 teams all having 7 wins out of the 8 games and were separated by only 3 shots at the end.

Congratulations to Steve Clark and Adam Moody who played a solid and steady tournament and led from start to finish.

Thanks to all the volunteers and officials who made it a very successful couple of days.

We also gave our greenkeeper, Joe (Joey) Saragozza – who is retiring soon –  a big send off with an excellent dinner and ‘Critter Roast’ (a bit like ‘This is your Life’) after day1. Although Joey is officially retiring (after about 40 years with Belrose), he will be still around the club to assist with the hand over to our new greenkeeping staff in the coming months. He will also be able to spend much more time with his family and his beloved Team Malta Lawn Bowlers. We wish him the very best over the coming years.
