President’s June Update

Just a few points I wish to cover for the benefit of members:

  • Unification. Thank you to those of you who attended our meeting on 24 May and voted unanimously in favour of both resolutions. For your information, in fact all 26 clubs in our Zone did likewise. Then last Monday at a Special General Meeting of both NSWWBA and the RNSWBA it was announced that as a result of state-wide vote by members and clubs had voted YES for Unification of the two associations BNSW and WBNSW into one new entity to be known as Bowls New South
Wales Limited (BNSW). After 41 year’s this is a very positive and major decision for the ongoing future of our great game of bowls.
  • Zone Pennants Finals. We hosted an outstanding weekend of bowls at Club Belrose last weekend. Thank you all to our supporters/members (both social and bowling) volunteers and staff, who helped showcase our club in so many ways to ensure the smooth and efficient running of this major bowling weekend. We received very positive feedback on all our overall arrangements in running this event. Harbord achieved a record in winning all, but Grade 2 which was won by North Sydney. Our Grade 6 and 7 teams did us proud in being runners up for both grades. For your information winning grade players points, will be credited to members cards next week. Now to support our Grade 1 in the State Finals to be held at Foster from 16 to 18 July.
  • Rex Johnston Pairs and Joe’s Roast Night. After COVID lockouts again forced some teams to pull out, 34 teams played in this major event. Day 1 weather conditions were very good, but day 2 was very cool and wet. The full results are available on the website. The Joe Saragozza Retirement
Dinner on Wednesday evening was a huge success with 80 attending the “Roast Night”. Much laughter and fun was had by all and who would have remembered all the stories told. Again, thanks go to Crowie/Joe and Steven/our Volunteers/Umpires for arranging this enjoyable dinner and 2
    days of outstanding bowls.
  • State Trials Squad. Great to see 4 of our members picked in the various teams for the upcoming trials. Congratulations to Billy, Steve R, Steve A and Ethan.
  • AGM. Could I ask all members to consider nomination for a Management Committee or various sub-committee roles, as our AGM is a little over 2 months away. Already, we need a new Treasurer as Barry is standing down after doing a fantastic job. Please consider your position and be part of the ongoing development of our club.

Please be aware Angie and myself will be away from Saturday 5 to the following Saturday 12 visiting Cairns/Cape York and Thursday and Horn Islands. Soon after my return, I will be having a hernia
operation, so will be out of action for some time.

Go the Bulls
