First National Real Estate 2nd Friday Pairs – 8 Dec 2023
Numbers were down again, but as the temperature threatened to be quite hot, it was understandable. However, players stated it wasn’t as bad as they thought with the breeze keeping temperatures in check.
A big thank you to Michael Buckley from First National for his continued support. Please consider Michael if you are wanting to rent, sell or buy. Or just give him a call to discuss the market if you have plans in the future.
Not forgetting the volunteers on the day. Maggie, Mike Evans, Andy Little, Tinky and Julie and to the Club Ltd. Staff and our Greenkeepers.
There were 5 teams that had 2 wins. So, we needed a countback on ends won.
2 teams had 13 ends – Kay and Lorraine (they narrowly missed out on winning all 3 games) and Richard Lewis and Janice Grubisich. They all got a hearty round of applause.
One team had 2 wins and 14 ends (Mike and Barbara). Who incidentally came in 3rd place and received a bottle of wine each.
Then we had 2 teams with 2 wins and 15 ends. So, we need to have a further countback on margins.
Ken and Doug had a margin of 13 and came 2nd. And won cash.
And the winners were……. Harvey Bowen and Bob Leonard with 2 wins 15 ends with a margin of 23. They received more cash.
The lucky player was Julian Toohey (North Sydney). He shared his winnings with his partner Matt Brain (Brainy), Alex Greig and Carl Walker, as the Jackpot had to go off.
We had a two more draws, and the winners were Richard Lewis. He won a pot of gold, (chocolate coins). Carl got a beer stubby holder with three options of Nice, Naughty, I Tried. The ‘I tried’ was ticked off.
Maggie and I organised a few more prizes than usual as this will be our last official Friday duty.
We had prizes for the first male and female to touch the jack. Won by Barbara and ‘Brainy’. They won a massive sized stick of chalk.
We had prizes for the first bowl in the Ditch (w/o touching the Jack). Barbara won a roll of Christmas toilet paper for her crappy shot. Doug won a stubby holder with ‘Oh Deer’.
We had prizes for a wrong bias. Colin and Julian won a pair of Christmas glasses each because they need to look harder at the bias side of their bowl. Apparently, Julian hasn’t done a wrong bias in over 20 years. However, his new glasses suit him. So timing was perfect.
Maggie and I noticed that Ken needed a new hat. So, he got a new sun safe straw hat. ‘Some assembly required’. Actually, that’s because it was only a bag of straw.
We gave Mike Evans, for all his support over the year, a support sock for his man parts in the shape of a reindeer. Actually, we’re still waiting on the photos to see if it fits properly.
We got Michael Buckley to present Janice with a new house. A tiny little Gingerbread House.
We were so happy to see Rody there. Rody has been the instigator of Friday Bowls for many years, so we wanted to give him a token of our appreciation. So, we gave him the original iPad, (or should I say eye Pad) No recharge or updates required. Works with most generic hardware (pens, pencils, crayons etc). It is basically a note pad with a googly eye. We know how he prefers older technology.
The raffle winners were Kevin Toovey (Woollies Voucher), Lindsay Morris (Bar Points), Janice (wine).
Thanks to Maggie and Julie for handing out ice blocks to players and spectators as well. Everyone enjoyed them, they were “super doopers” in long tubes – yum.
Congratulations to all.
