Australia Day 2024 – Wrap Up

What a scorcher of a day! But the heat didn’t deter 61 bowlers from our Mens and Ladies clubs, and visitors, from having a fun filled day at Club Belrose.

We played 2 games of 2 bowls triples, each game 10 ends. With our eyes on our trusted Hygrometer, this was just the right format, and got us back into the Clubhouse before the real heat of the day set in. A gusty wind kept us cooler, and tested our judgement on the greens, with many a bowl deciding to go elsewhere on its own accord. Kaye and Helen kept the teams happy with ice blocks between the games.

Raffle tickets were selling like hot cakes, with a fantastic assortment of 30 prizes up for grabs. 2 Australia Day hampers, Baileys and Gin, were our major raffle prizes, with fresh chickens, port and chocolates, toffees, and bottles of wine giving the winners a fine choice of the table.

Our prize money was for lucky rinks, rather than game winners. We alternated the 4 team prizes between winning and losing rinks, so everyone had a fair chance of the cash prizes. And finally, we had 3 ‘lucky player’ winners.

Cascades provided our delicious hamburger and chips lunch, followed by the traditional lamingtons. It was really a fantastic day, full of fun and friendship.

Huge thanks to the many willing hands helping early to start the day, with the setting up of the room, morning teas, decorations, selling raffle tickets, collecting the fees, and handing out the cards. Our flagstaff display was very impressive, thanks to Mike, acknowledging our country, state, heritage, and both our bowling clubs. The united volunteers of our Club are truly remarkable with their willingness to help out. Once again, THANK YOU to all.
