2023-24 Zone 9 Fours Champions: Mick, Rohan, Matt and Steve
2023-24 Zone & District Fours
Last weekend was a big weekend for Belrose in the Men’s and Women’s Zone and District Fours Championships. Once again, we ran the Men’s and Women’s tournaments side by side, with all the finals played concurrently on the Sunday afternoon – it was a great atmosphere on the green and everyone enjoyed the occasion.
The Men’s State Fours final was an all Belrose affair with 8 of the Clubs top bowlers going head to head, while the Men’s Senior Fours was a contest between two old sparing partners: Terry Warder from Harbord and Steve Ashdown from Belrose.
Both the Women’s State and Senior matches were Belrose versus Neutral Bay.
In the Zone 9 State Fours, the team of Mick Rawlings, Rohan Dennis, Matt Blackburn and Steve Rawlings defeated the team of Steve Lowe, Ethan Scott-Branagan, James Brown and John Campton 20-14. It was an arm wrestle for the first half of the match with Rowdy leading 10-8 after 10 ends. There was a lot of tension in the air as Rawlos team started to gain momentum and ended up winning 8 of the last 11 ends.
In the Zone 9 Senior Four, the Bulls team of Max Gray, John Venteman, Graham Hartman and Steve Ashdown defeated the Harbord team of Dave Shearer, Graham Tetstall, Tony Taylor and Terry Warder 26-20 in a great match. The Bulls stated strongly to lead 10-1 with Harbord fighting back to 11-7, then 17 all after 15 ends. Belrose then led 23-20 after 20 ends closing it out with a 3 on the last end.
In the North Shore District State Fours, Elaine Seidler, Jenny Palmer, Kate Wingrove and Jenny Hepburn (Neutral Bay) defeated Suzi Fischer, Dale Nuttall, Midori Matsuoka and Patricia Tan (Belrose) 22-15.
In the North Shore District Senior Fours, Jan Keller, Maggie Murphy, Julie Baker and Billie Maas (Belrose) defeated Brenda Cook, Lea Eastaugh, Brenda Walker and Trish Wilson 18-11.
The North Shore District Champions take on Manly-Warringah winners next Saturday for a berth in the State Championships.
